Melissa and Doug 50% off at Amazon today!!

I am a big fan of Melissa and Doug stuff.  Good quality toys for sure.  They can be on the expensive side, so today is the day to put some stuff away for Christmas or even future birthdays!  I bought a wooden knob puzzle for a baby off the Angel tree at church, and it is awesome!  Very heavy and great quality. Highly recommend anything from M&D.  Here is the link to the sale!

I miss my Grandma Jan so much.  She was such an important lady in my life.  She's been gone about two and a half years and I think about her all the time.  She left me a piece of furniture I keep in my guest room, and it smells like her house did.  I remember so many details about her and her house that I know will gradually fade over time, so I try to think of them often so the fading slows down.  I still have my Grandma Mary.  My husband still has his Grandpa.  So I make them cards with pictures of the kids when I think of it.  We need to get on the road to see him and that side of the family soon.  It's been way too long, and I know the kids look completely different than they did the last time we trekked down that way.  And, I know my husband will always be glad he went.  Just have to pick a weekend and go!  Especially now that the drive will be nice with the leaves changing and something to look at on the way down.  My Grandma lives in New England and that would be a beautiful trip, too!  But a 10+ hour drive with a 3-year-old and two older, tormenting brothers is so very daunting.  It must be done, though.  Hoping you all have a nice week ahead!

Yet another Shutterfly post.

Nothing like a little pressure from an expiring coupon to throw together a book and keep it under 20 pages to get it for free!  I find that I work better under pressure anyway.  I didn't have anything in mind really except for a compilation of my Instagram pictures.  I really love how Instagram makes you an instant artist.  Throw a filter on an otherwise unremarkable photo, and viola!  Check out my new project to the right.  The book with the rainbow cover.  Enjoy!

Finally, a new post!

I have lost my momentum with blogging lately!  Still trying to figure out what I want my content to consist of.  You know I love a good deal, sale, or coupon, but it's hard to stay motivated in that area when you are facing a furlough.  Trying to hang on to every penny we have for the months we are out 20% of our money!  So, purchase of clothes, shoes, and anything other than food and utilities is pretty much out of the question for now!

Also, I'm looking at the fact that school is almost over.  I have a bad habit of not being able to look past a big event that is upcoming (i.e. my third-grader's SOLs).  The SOLs have now come and gone as of yesterday, so now I have to start looking towards the summer!  I have tried schedules in the past, which worked out well, but take major discipline to enforce.  The kids do well knowing what to expect hour to hour during the day, sort of like at school.  I actually packed their lunches for a while at the beginning of last summer to avoid hemming and hawing over what there is to eat.  But, of course after a while I lost my motivation to do that.  What tricks of the mom trade do you use to get through the summer?  Line up activities, travel plans, camps?

We have a week of camp right after school ends and then a week vacation in August but lots of empty weeks in between.  I'm thinking we will be spending blocks of time at the playground and away from home each day.  My three boys need space to run and explore, and if we stay home, that means the neighbor kids will be over every day.  For some, I do not mind at all, but others, I feel like a free babysitter, and I HATE THAT!  If I don't know the parents well and there is no open line of communication, I do not like being in charge of their kids.  How do you handle this?  I feel like a jerk for feeling this way, because the kids know no better.  They just wanna play.  But, I literally have to stop whatever it is I am doing and just watch them.  When this happens every day for hours on end, it starts to interfere with laundry, dishes, cooking, etc.  Stuff I need to get done that doesn't.  Because I'm watching other people's kids (and my own of course).

Looks like I have opened a can of worms of here.  I don't even know how I made it through my own childhood, because it's not as if I remember my mom and dad in our faces the whole time we were outside.  My childhood reminds me of The Wonder Years.  You know, when Kevin would just get on his bike and go wherever he wanted as long as he was home before dinner.  I lived in that kind of neighborhood.  We didn't do anything too stupid (that I can remember), but kids are different today.  And of course I feel like there are horrible people lurking in the woods or ready to drive by at any minute to snatch somebody.  Ugh.  Maybe my parents were watching, but if they were, I can't remember.  Maybe my kids won't remember either.

Okay, off to get these people to school for their half-day and then long weekend.  What are your plans?  Do you have a Memorial Day tradition you follow?  Thanks to all my new followers.  Hoping to build my audience and be inspired to provide you with something entertaining/informative/worth-your-time to read!

Maggie Bags are fantastic!

I have blogged before about Maggie Bags, but I cannot stress how much I love these.  I don't like to buy expensive designer bags because I am rough on my purses.  I have to carry everything that has to do with children including snacks, juice, wipes, etc., and having a bag that can be washed ONLY makes sense. Maggie Bags are made from recycled seat belts and are functional and awesome to look at!  I wish I lived closer to their headquarters, because I would try to get a job with them...that's how much I believe in their product!  I enter every giveaway I can find regarding a Maggie Bag including this one:

Hopefully I will get the traffic I need through my blog to be able to host my own giveaway!  This is the one I REALLY want:
